Purchase of largest brownfield project ever in Flanders
ZWIJNDRECHT (28 June 2010) – The joint venture DEC, Dredging International, Jan De Nul and Envisan has finalised today the purchase of 140 hectare (approx. 345 acres) derelict and contaminated land. The area was released after the failure of the companies Nilefos Chemie and MisaEco and is located on the territory of the municipalities Zelzate, Evergem and Ghent. The joint venture has now purchased the entire site and has taken over all remediation obligations, including the capping and aftercare of the gypsum stack.

The huge Avenue Coking Works remediation project near Chesterfield has received an excellent score from the Considerate Constructors Scheme. The construction industry scheme rates sites against a code of practice judging its impact on the working environment, the work force and the public. This was the Scheme's first visit to the site.

£82m contract awarded to clean up one of Europe's most contaminated sites
VSD Avenue, a joint venture partnership between VolkerStevin, DEC and Sita Remediation, has been awarded the contract to remediate the former Avenue Coking Works in Chesterfield; one of the most heavily contamianted sites in Europe.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) is redeveloping 2.5 square kilometers of Brownfield Land within the Lower Lea Valley that will house five major venues for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The site was acquired in July 2007 by the London Development Agency, and the ODA is completing the remediation of the site on their behalf. Since July 2007, over 215 buildings have been demolished, 90 per cent of the site has been cleared and over 1.3 million cubic metres of soil excavated. The site has historically been used for a range of uses including light retail and heavy industrial processes. The majority of the area being excavated consisted of made ground as a result of land reclamation of the old marshes in Victorian Times or early industrial revolution and land raising over the last 50 years.

Brasil Terminal Portuario, a Brazilian terminal operating company whose main customer will be shipping company MSC recently signed an important contract to clean up harbour sites in the Brazilian harbour city Santos with DEME Environmental Contractors (DEC), the environmental subsidiary of the Antwerp dredging, civil engineering and environmental group DEME. The contract is valued at € 75 million.

4 September 2008 - Today an important assignment for the design, construction and exploitation of a silt treatment and storage system in the port of Antwerp – the AMORAS project – has been awarded to Dredging International and Jan De Nul, supported by their respective environmental subsidiaries DEC (DEME Environmental Contractors) and Envisan. This group of specialised contractors has joined forces within the joint venture company SeReAnt. The contract calls for a design and construction period of 30 months, followed by the exploitation of the installations for a period of 15 years. The entire operation represents a total turnover of 400 million Euro, excl. VAT.

The Colgate site in Gentbrugge (close to Gent, Belgium), is contaminated with chloroform. Project developer Sovapex awarded DEC a contract for the excavation and removal of the contaminated soil to the soil recycling centre in Kallo. Also, the placement of a drain is needed for the remediation of the groundwater in a later stage. The works will have a duration of one month.

DEC is part of a joint venture that has been awarded the next stage of the remediation of one of Europes most contaminated sites, the former Avenue Coking Works in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The contract has a value of over 100 million euros, and means an important breakthrough for DEC in the United Kingdom.
