DEC UK Ltd: newly formed subsidiary
DEC was formed in 2000 following the merger of the companies Silt, Soils, Bitumar and OEC, all DEME companies with their own specialties. That way, DEC could offer clients better and more cost efficient solutions.
DEC also looked across the national boundaries with activities set up in the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Italy, Spain etc.
In the United Kingdom, DEC added one important project after the other to the order book. Between 2000 and 2003, the former gasworks in Dublin at the Sir John Rogerson’s Quay was completely remediated; the biggest remediation at that time. Approximately 300,000 tonnes of contaminated soil were excavated and transported to our soil recycling centre. Elsewhere in the UK and Ireland, more projects were awarded. For example, DEC was involved in the pilot tests for the remediation of the Avenue Coking Works in Chesterfield, work that later led to the award of the contract. DEC then invested in the design and development of several mobile soil washing plants (0 B), that can treat contaminated soil on site with the physico-chemical treatment technique.
In 2007, the time had come to convert the UK branch to an independent subsidiary. Off course, DEC UK can still count on the expertise of DEC’s supporting services in Belgium. DEC UK Ltd. has many challenges lying ahead: besides the remediation of the Avenue Coking Works, other large remediation projects have recently been awarded.
