Soil protection Cruise quay (Antwerp, Belgium)

In a project for the Ministry of the Flemish Community, DEC performed bottom protection work at Cruise Quay in Antwerp.

Because this involved erosion protection underwater, we had to opt for prefabricated fibrous open stone asphalt® mats using a frame. The mats were fabricated on land. Using a specially designed leg frame, the mats were sunk one by one in the correct position.

The benefit of this system is that a fully fledged erosion protection can be positioned under water as well. With this system, bottom protection is achieved with material that has a limited thickness.
