Sediment and Sludge Treatment
Environmental dredging in Nieuwpoort and Blankenberge (Belgium)
The access channel to Nieuwpoort and the harbour channel had to be maintained at a depth of H-3.60m and H-3.10m, respectively. The depth of the marinas had to be maintained, depending on the zone, to a depth varying from a depth of H-2.10m to H-2.60m.
The access channeland the port channelwere (partially) kept at depth with small trailing suction hopper dredges that dredged, transported and dumped the dredgings at a permitted dumping site in the ocean. The marinas and the port trench were (partially) maintained with the help of an environmentally friendly stationary suction dredger "Blani”. This dredging rig is equipped with an automated sweeper head, underwater pump and floating booster with which the dredgings can be pumped at high density via a floating line in self-guiding split containers, equipped with a linkage system.
At the moment, similar maintenance work is being performed at the access to the Port of Blankenberge and in the Port of Blankenberge.
