Landfill techniques
Among other activities, we handle:
- Conditioning of the substrate and groundwater monitoring
- Earthworks
- Double sealing (combination of mineral and synthetic seals) of soils and final profiles
- Vertical seals with synthetic screens and/or cement-bentonite
- Leak detection
- Percolate drainage (granular layers, drainage tubes and collectors, bored wells and pumps)
- Stabilisation
- Gas valorisation
- Final sealing
- Water management
- Buffer basins
- Water purification system
This potential for wide-ranging specialisations and diverse technologies makes us a unique player in the market. We possess all the requirements to present our clients with a fitting solution without needing to call on third parties. We can perform all the work under our own management.
Technologies
Synthetic sealing
Both DEC and Ecoterres have certified welders (BCCA, founded by WTCB and SECO) to seal synthetic materials (polyethylene), membranes and pipes, to guarantee the highest quality of this welding work. All work is performed in accordance with a required quality monitoring plan that is presented to the client for approval.
Mineral seal: Trisoplast®
Besides the experience required for the employment of clay mats, natural clay and sand bentonite as mineral seals, DEC also has exclusive rights in Belgium to use Trisoplast®. This mixture of sand, bentonite and a polymer is then processed according to a set protocol so that the highest possible quality is always guaranteed. Quality monitoring applies to raw materials, the mixture and the installed sealing layer. The very low water permeability of Trisoplast® (10-10 m/s) allows for the formation of layer thicknesses of approx. 10 cm more than other feasible alternatives for clay layers of 50 cm.
Gas valorisation – biogas extraction
The installation of gas pipe networks to extract biogas from landfills. The extraction of biogas using filter elements, both horizontal and vertical, is one of our specialities. The biogas is then incinerated (gas torch) or utilised (gas engine).
